Cancer

Sickle Cell Anaemia is caused due to a genetic defect in the haemoglobin gene which changes the shape of red blood cells from round to sickle. This distorted shape of red blood cells can cause other symptoms such as Anaemia, infections, fever and episodes of pain crisis. Dr. Silky Jain, Senior Consultant, Paediatric Oncology & BMT, Max Super Speciality Hospital, Shalimar Bagh, explains the role of technologically-advanced Bone Marrow Transplant as a successful cure along with supportive treatment measures for Sickle Cell Anaemia.

Sickle Cell Disease is a group of inherited red blood cell disorders where the cells become sticky and look like a C-shaped farm tool called ‘sickle’.
