Pediatric Oncology

Cancer in children is a rare entity, requiring highly specialised multidisciplinary care, involving both Pediatric and Oncology department. Every year, an estimated number of about 75,000 children develop cancer in India. Majority of these can achieve cure with early diagnosis, and right treatment, at the right center. Some of the common cancers seen in children are:

  • Leukemias (Blood cancers) – ALL and AML – Most common cancer in children
  • Brain tumours- Most common solid tumour in children
  • Lymphomas (Lymph nodes)
  • Wilms tumour (Kidney)
  • Neuroblastoma (Adrenal gland)
  • Rhabdomyosarcoma and other sarcomas (Muscles and connective tissue)
  • Ewings sarcoma and Osteosarcoma (Bone tumours)
  • Germ cell tumours (Testes, ovary, abdomen, chest)
  • Retinoblastoma (Eyes)
  • Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH)
